LASER - Road Safety

Road safety scenarios may cover four areas; Pedestrian, Cycling, In-Car and Conspicuity.

Each area has a subset of Key Messages.

Road Safety Scenarios must be pitched at the 'right age'.
Some of the subset messages can be incorporated and combined with other scenarios.
Scenarios should empower children to make decisions to be safe. (Experience, Knowledge, Process and Practice)

Accredited schemes ensure their road safety scenarios contain the following: -

 • Know a safe place to cross

• Always wear a helmet

• Always wear an individual seat belt (if there is one)

• Wear something FLOURESCENT during the day

• Know how to use the safer place to cross

• Always check the bike before using it

• Do not distract the driver

• Wear something REFLECTIVE at night

• Plan a safer route

• Wear something light and bright during daylight

 

• Know the difference between FLOURESCENT and REFLECTIVE

 

• Wear something reflective during darkness

 

• Assess your clothing

 

• Know the Highway Code

 

• It is difficult for drivers to see at night and in the rain

 

• Know your capabilities
